rebloom orchids

how do i get an orchid to rebloom?
How do i get my orchid to rebloom? I tried putting it in a very moist condition but that didn’t work. Do they only bloom once/
Orchids usually only bloom once a year, sometimes twice. They can bloom for a few weeks to a few months – depending on the type and cultivar.
I have four Phalaenopsis orchids that bloom once a year – usually mid to late winter.
While they are not flowering, as it works out I need to water them twice a week in the summer to keep the medium barely moist and once a week in the winter.
I use a balanced fertilizer all year but as soon as the weather begins to cool I change the fertilizer to a bloom boosting fertilizer. Although they are the same type of orchids, one (purple) blooms about a month earlier than the other three (yellow).
I have three different orchids than the four just mentioned which are Bletilla striata orchids which flower sometime between early spring and mid-summer. I use the same fertilizer schedule for all the plants.
Once you have the orchid’s home and they are no longer being grown in ideal greenhouse conditions, they revert back to their own flowering schedule.
Although you can keep your orchid alive and growing by only watering when the planting medium is almost dry – it would be in your best interest to find out what type of orchid you have, for a number of reasons. Some will only flower if they have a cool dry winter period, while others do not need a seasonal change of any kind.
Also, there are orchids that do not have pseudobulbs (water storing structures) and must never be allowed to dry out completely. While orchids with pseudobulbs can be left completely dry for short or long periods of time.
You should be able to keep your orchid growing well vegetatively (having it grow leaves) by making sure it gets bright light and you do not over-water it – it may not flower unless you follow a more structured watering and lighting regime, necessary for THAT specific orchid. Sometimes they flower every year for people without any knowledge of orchids or the type of orchid they are growing – as some friends of mine can attest to. Since they don’t know anything about orchids – they have theirs on a window sill, water them once a week and the orchids throw a flower spike covered with buds (and flowers) every year.
