Wisdom Feature: Decorating for Winter by Misha Vasser
Like each other season, winter can be a beautiful season to decorate for. One cautionary tip is to make sure any plants you decorate with are hardy enough to withstand the wild changes in temperature and precipitation that winter can bring. Some of the most popular items to use in winter decorations are evergreens, branches (sometimes frosted), and that special selection of wintry seasonal flowers. Inevitably your winter decorations will involve Christmas colors and elements, including wreaths and garlands. Many of these decorations work for the rest of the winter as well; just make sure these decorations have the right feel for January and February as well as December.
Silk Flowers as Wedding Dcor
Weddings are a perfect place to use silk flower arrangements. Some of the places you may consider using silk flowers are as table decorations; garlands for banisters, dividers, and dcor for archways and pillars; gifts for guests; and worn and handheld flowers such as boutonnieres, corsages, and bouquets. There are many beautiful silk bouquets are available to brides. Unlike real flowers, silk flowers stand little chance of getting crushed, losing petals, or coming apart as the bouquet is tossed. Also, the bride can keep her wedding bouquet forever! Regardless of where silk flowers are used in the wedding, they should accent, not detract from, the loveliness of the day. Make sure the colors and styles coordinate with the theme of the wedding. This theme is usually decided by the bride, but florists can also come up with many different arrangements and designs for the occasion.
The Elegant Maple Tree
Some of the prettiest trees you can choose to decorate are maple trees. Part of the reason why maple trees are so renowned is because they have a beautiful leaf pattern (in part made internationally recognizable by the Canadian flag). The leafâs design makes it uniquely identifiable. It is amazing how well the look of the leaves is reproduced in silk maple trees. Also, the amount of leafage on silk maple trees is much greater than with most other tree types. With so many leaves, the tree appears very verdant and fertile, but keep in mind that silk trees do need a periodic cleaning. However, this purging of dust, in all reality, need only happen once a year.
Pots, Urns, and Other Containers
Have you ever put a picture in a new frame, and been surprised at how much better the picture looks? You would be equally surprised to see how having a good pot for your plant makes a big difference. Based on the styles and types of greenery you use, one pot may work well for your plant while another one does not compliment it at all. For instance, if you’re thinking about a bonsai plant, you will want a small pot, preferably with a Japanese or Asian influence, and with soft earthy colors. On the other hand, with a bamboo plant the pot should have a more modern design or perhaps use a wicker material. It is better to have a good idea about the entire selection of pots available to you before making a selectionâ”and in all reality, there are about as many pot designs as there are plants. Another quality to play around with is how big of a container you want. Some arrangements are arranged around a very large decorated pot, and in other arrangements the pot is barely visible.
