Pots, Urns, and Other Containers
When decorating with flowers and other greenery, donât underestimate the importance of the pot! Based on the styles and types of greenery you use, one pot may work well for your plant while another one does not compliment it at all. The bonsai plant is a great illustration of this: because of its appearance and origin, you will want an Oriental pot with a clay or stone material. With a different plant such as the bamboo, you will want a different look for your pot (try a metal pot with chic designs). Before you come to a decision, look at several different styles, colors, and materials to make sure you get the best fit. There is no rulebook as far as pot size. Some flowers or plants look best when accented with a bigger pot, and others require something more delicate.
Flower Color Coordination for Arrangements
Whether the flowers in your floral arrangement are real or artificial, having the right blend of colors makes a big difference in overall appearance. If you stop by a flower shop and study how colors are synchronized in your favorite floral designs, you will gain some ideas of how you want your own floral arrangements to look. If you prefer, you can also use the Internet to explore different floral arrangement ideas. Floral arrangements can be put together using one of two strategies. The more natural style uses flowers from matching areas or times of year. These types of arrangements almost look like you have taken a natural garden or field and placed them in your home. The next type of arranging is shape and color coordination. You are most likely to see these types of arrangements at weddings or other social gatherings. A tip when arranging these flowers is to arrange within the same color but use different hues of that color.
Silk Palm Trees
Most people, when they think of artificial trees, think of a pine tree or Christmas tree. If there was one example to break the mold of this silk tree pattern, it would be the palm tree. The palm tree not only looks very different from the Christmas tree, it seems to belong to a totally different season and has a very different feel. There are hundreds and hundreds of different styles of palm trees; the same goes with silk palm trees. Of course, the most popular variety is the stereotypical palm tree (some even come with coconuts!). Because the palm tree has very broad, extended leaves, you will want to know the girth of the tree. Most people are surprised to find out how large the palm trees circumference is, and may have to rearrange the room to provide enough space for it. For beginners, I would recommend getting a small palm tree to spruce up the bedroom, office, or even the kitchen area.
A Real Plant or an Artificial One? That is the Question
If you are planning to add some greenery to your home, consider whether you want them to be live or silk. There are some great pros and cons to each option. Plenty of sunshine and regular watering are necessities for real greenery that you will need to be able to provide. Also, bugs are sometimes drawn to live plants. On the other hand, real plants give you a sense of satisfaction when you take care of them, and you feel a little âgreenerâ. If you are planning to change your greenery based on the seasons, if you like to move furniture and decorations around a lot, or if you yourself may be moving at some point, you will find it easy to store and move silk plants. If you decide to go with silk plants, judge carefully how realistic they seem. Artificial plants can be beautiful, but if it is obvious that they are not real, they lose some of their charm. The best compliment an artificial plant can receive is, âI thought it was real!â
