How to Choose Flowers for a Western Wedding by Natasha Young
Now that you have decided to have a Western wedding you will want to make sure that the flowers are authentic to your time period. Whether you use fresh flower bouquets with many blossoms or just put together a few of the more popular flowers it is important to make sure you understand what types of flowers grow in the west.
In addition to the bridal bouquets, you will also want to have a variety of flowers in your location and at your reception. There are many different ways that you can present your flowers that will make them unique and friendly.
Your theme will also decide what type of flowers you will have and this may depend on your location. For instance, if you want to create a Rocky Mountain theme your flowers will be different than if you want to create a Texas theme. These are things to think about because you want your flowers to fit into your theme.
If you are going to do a western wedding in the south you might find that mums are a great flower because they come in a variety of colors. You can decorate several places with the same flowers but with different colors. Other types of flowers that will add a touch of country flair include:
Spider lilies are actually an herb but they are wonderful because they look exotic because they have pointy, spidery blooms. They are great for the bridal bouquets or as centerpieces on tables. They grow well all over Texas.
Zinnias will spice up your western wedding if you are going more southwest because these flowers grow very well in the Southwest, Mexico and Central America. They have thick blooms and you will find a variety of colors in them from reds to multi-colors. These also make great centerpieces or you can stick them around the reception hall as an added treat.
Different types of blossoms are a great way to add a little color and a bit of smell. Usually those blossoms that come from fruit and nut trees make an excellent flower for decorations. Apple or peach blossoms are very popular and they can stick a few in your hair.
Another great way to add flowers to your western wedding is to use paper flowers as accents. Paper flowers have a place in many Mexican festivals and this is a great way to celebrate your special day. You can find these in many different shapes and sizes and in many bright colors.
Although it may sound crazy, for some weddings in the west a few cactus plants of different styles and sizes may be great for the front of your location or staged attractively around the reception all. This would be great for a country western theme where you also had bales of hay spread her and there.
Orchids are another nice choice and you can get them inexpensively. You could have them scattered around rocks if you have an outside wedding.
Flowers can be one of the most important parts of your western wedding and if you take your time you can find many things to complement your special day.
