Intelligence Article: Rearranging: Plus Extra by Misha Vasser
Sometimes when I am at the craft store, it is easy to think that buying a certain item will add so much to the look of my home. This mode of thought not only leaves me constantly wanting for the next available item but also leaves my wallet empty. All too often that purchase ends up leaving my home at the next yard sale. I have been surprised to discover that rearranging my furniture and decorations is often more satisfyingâ”and flatteringâ”than adding something new. Sometimes I do something drastic (rearrange an entire room), and sometimes the change is more subtle (swapping this picture for that painting), but it still gives me the feeling of having a nice change in the house. This way, I am expanding my artistic ability and sparing my wallet!
The Exotic and Eye-catching Bonsai Tree
The art of the bonsai tree started with the Japanese. They had such an affinity for trees and their beauty that it became common place for a small tree, such as a bonsai, to have a prominent place in the home. That custom has spread across the world. It is important to know the dimensions of the area in which you will add your own bonsai tree, whether you are using a real or a silk plant. As with any type of greenery, you will need to consider the width of the pot and the height of the tree when it is fully grown. As a helpful hint, make sure that you are treating yourself to a specialty pot or container. The exotic nature of the plant should be complimented by the container it is kept in.
The Many Varieties of Silk Trees
It is amazing to some how many types of silk trees actually exist. Everyone is aware of the artificial Christmas tree. Some of the less renowned trees may be perfect for your needs, but you didnât know they exist. One of these is the banana tree. These trees have very thick, long leaves and look almost like a palm tree. You can get a completely different look by choosing a bonsai tree, which has much smaller and more delicate foliage. One nice feature about the bonsai tree is that it comes in a great variety of styles. A third, less commonly used idea is silk grass, including bear grass, horsetail, and even cattail. The more you get to look at and experiment with different alternatives, the more likely you are to hit on just the right design for your home.
Decorating for the Winter Season
Though each season is fun to decorate for, winter decorations seem to hold a special place in everyoneâs hearts. Keep in mind as you decorate with plants and other foliage how the changes in weather and temperature will affect them. Wintry flowers (poinsettias, many white flowers, and a few other species), coniferous plants and elements, and bare tree branches can all be used to create a beautiful winter display. Much of winter decor revolves around Christmas, therefore Christmas tree pines, wreaths, and any other type of Christmas decor is perfectly acceptable. Many of these decorations work for the rest of the winter as well; just make sure these decorations have the right feel for January and February as well as December.
Silk Garden Online.com offers a great selection of silk flowers. Including flower arrangements, silk roses, tulips, orchids, and more.
