Adding Decorative Topiary Plants
One of the biggest designing tips when working with topiaries is to give them enough space to look good. Remember there are many topiary sizes, shapes, and styles that you can choose from. If you plan to place a topiary into your office, we recommend that you choose a tall circular topiary style. Since many people do not have the time or ability to make sure their office plants are well watered and have plenty of natural light, silk topiaries are often the best way to go. These trees can also look good in homes and churches. You can find silk topiaries small enough to adorn your desk and large enough to fill a large area of a room. Be creative in your choice of topiaries and what you use to decorate with them!
Making and Displaying Wreaths
A simple but beautiful way to decorate your porch is to add a wreath to your door. There are many ways to be creative when you make a wreath: the combinations of colors, shapes, and themes or styles lead to endless possibilities. To make a basic wreath, procure some silk flowers and a foam ring from a craft store or shopping center. Using some heavy-duty scissors, cut the stems of your flowers, leaving about an inch of stem below the flower. Then push the stems of each flower into the ring. As you are positioning the flowers, make sure that the foam is thoroughly covered; however, you do not want your flowers to look too crowded! As you add the flowers, it is a good idea to dot them with a little glue from a hot glue gun at the point where the stem comes out of the foam. Vines or other standard greenery can be used to add a festive flare. You can theme your wreath to the time of year, or use regional flowers for a more local look. Finally, choose what part of the wreath you want on âtopâ and tie a string around that area so that you can hang it on the door.
Decorating in an Arid Environment
Great home decorating invites surrounding environmental aspects into the home and makes the resident feel comfortable. Arid climates provide a lot of unique and beautiful decorating elements. When decorating in a rural or dry area, consider some plant varieties such as grass horsetails, bear grass, or cactus. Be creative with your desert dcor by adding rock arrangements or sand. Most of these combinations will have a light red or orange feel. It wouldnât hurt (literally) to decide on a silk cactus as opposed to a live one. They are not extremely dangerous, but it would not be a fun afternoon picking out the needles after a child has pulled a cactus plant on top of himself or herself.
Keeping your Dcor (Relatively) Simple
When decorating your house, the look you are going for can be classy, unique, retro, chic, modern, eclectic, or traditional. Any style is greatâ”as long as the style isnât chaotic. Though âless is moreâ doesnât always have to be the rule when decorating, âas much as is humanly possibleâ hardly ever looks nice. Some overzealous decorators have so many large decorative items that one cannot even walk around efficiently. Some garages are so full of stored seasonal furnishings that nothing else will fit. In order to avoid some dysfunctional methods when designing for your home, first consider the purpose of the room that you would like to decorate. Think about the kitchen: most people use all the counter space they have, so to fill that area with knickknacks is usually a bad idea. At the other end of the spectrum, bedrooms are places where some decorative touches are welcomed and appreciated. A good rule of thumb is if you need to move a decorative piece out of the way more than twice a week, it probably should be thrown out or exchanged for a more functional item.
