Lush Greenery Enrichment: Exciting Ideas by Misha Vasser
Decorating for Winter
Like each other season, winter can be a beautiful season to decorate for. One cautionary tip is to make sure any plants you decorate with are hardy enough to withstand the wild changes in temperature and precipitation that winter can bring. Some of the most popular items to use in winter decorations are evergreens, branches (sometimes frosted), and that special selection of wintry seasonal flowers. Of course, decorations tied to the Christmas season play a major role in winter decorations. Many of these decorations work for the rest of the winter as well; just make sure these decorations have the right feel for January and February as well as December.
Decorating with Tropical Elements
Themes are common ways to coordinate dcor items when redecorating specific areas of your house. In addition to seasonal themes, it is very easy to find decorative ideas for themes based on certain environments. There are some simple tips that go a long way to creating a tropical feel. First, to simulate a tropical feel, use a lot of greenery. You will want to choose selections that have more substantial leaves with vivid colors. Of course, palm trees do very well in creating the tropical look. Another essential is brightly colored flowers. Some restraint is necessary to create a tropical look: you want it to be lush and colorful, but not overpowering. You will want to offset your more intense colors with more soothing background piecesâ”remember, tropical should not only be invigorating, it should have a feeling of relaxation as well. Rely on pictures of tropical areasâ”no one decorates better than Mother Nature!
How to Preserve Flowers from Special Occasions
Many special occasions come with flowers, and preserving those flowers is a wonderful way to have a memento of that special day. It usually doesnât take long for flowers to begin wilting, especially if the ceremony they were used for called for them to be out of waterâ”so donât delay when it is time to dry them. Two techniques for preserving flowers lead to two totally different looksâ”but neither is difficult to do. One way is to attach a string around your flowers and hang them upside down until they have dried completely. However, it is important to keep a few things in mind: moisture and light are enemies to a perfectly dry flower, so hang your flowers in a cool, dry, dark place. Also, dried flowers are very fragile, so to prevent damage we recommend placing them in a case or shadowbox. The second technique for drying flowers is to press them. Since this process does not work very well with bigger or rounder flowers, consider pressing the flowerâs petals rather than the whole flower; with small, delicate flowers, pressing yields very pretty results.
How to Improve the Look of Your House Using Just A Few Minutes
You do not have to spend countless hours to have a beautiful-looking home. There are several strategies you can use, each of which only takes a few minutes. Keep a small journal of ideas you would like to implement in your home. On a day where you have a few hours to fix something up, your notebook will save you the trouble of figuring out what to do or how to do it. Do one smaller thing every day that will not have to be done again for a long time (for example, organizing a drawer in the kitchen or cleaning the corners of the ceiling). By taking a few extra minutes a day for this, you can keep your home looking great. You can also take a few minutes each day to learn new home decorating techniques. Flip through a new book or magazine and note what you think looks good. A gorgeous, efficient, and pleasant home is within reachâ”and all it takes is a small amount of extra time each day.
