Decorating with Silk Orchids
There are over 30,000 types of orchids, and almost four times as many orchid hybrids. Because the natural orchid flowers have so many distinct variations, their silk counterparts are also as numerous. All orchids are known for their beautiful leaf pattern, which is semi-symmetrical in appearance. The orchid flower is semi symmetric, open, and has striking color combinations. Flower arrangements including orchids should display that flower as the dominant one in the display. One beautiful way to design these flowers is to let them hang over the edges of a beautiful vase. Another is to place them as the centerpiece of an arrangement, with various greenery encircling them. Though most have bright colors, there are also several selections of milder tones and even shades of brown. Another plus to this family of flowers is that they can be used in decorations for any time of year.
Topiary Plants
The topiary field is an example of horticultural artwork: topiary plants are trimmed and shaped into specialized figures and designs. Most often the plants used for topiary purposes are extremely dense. These topiaries come in every shape and sizes ranging from elephants, squirrels and people to elaborate designs, mazes, and even tunnels. Many people who love topiaries but do not have a place to display a 20-foot shrub choose to decorate their houses with much smaller silk topiaries. One place you can often find silk topiaries are in office buildings, places of worship, and larger public gathering places. The most common design for the silk topiary is the spiral. This is due to the small offices and spaces that these topiaries are required to fill.
Creating a Centerpiece
One of the more common uses for silk plants, flower arrangements, and other small home decor trinkets is as a centerpiece. They are usually displayed somewhere where everyone can see them. The goal is not only to create something attractive, but also enhance the other elements of the home. The best centerpieces lead one’s eye to look at several different things. For instance, a flower centerpiece that has an X. pattern or direction causes viewers to their eyes from the top left to the bottom right and vice versa. Some arrangements do this by having long strands crossing in the middle. Another great design to incorporate is an arch. The arch can be accomplished by using a variety of flowers, grass, or other shrubbery forming a dome-like shape, with flowers weaving through it. The Internet, florist shops, magazines, furniture stores, and even other people’s homes are great places to gather ideas for your centerpiece designs.
