Making and Displaying Wreaths

A lovely wreath on your door will tell visitors to your home something about you before they even step inside. There are many ways to be creative when you make a wreath: the combinations of colors, shapes, and themes or styles lead to endless possibilities. To make a basic wreath, procure some silk flowers and a foam ring from a craft store or shopping center. Take the flowers and cut off the stems about one inch from the calyx, or bottom of the flower. Insert the flowers one at a time into the foam ring. Strategically place them so that they are close enough to cover up the foam, but not so close that they look bunched or crushed. Your wreath will last a very long time if you use a hot glue gun to add small amounts of glue where the base of the flower touches the ring. A little extra green in your wreath is often a nice touch—use leaves or vines to supplement your flowers. Color coordination can be used to match the seasons, or if you like a natural look, any variety of flower colors will work. Once the wreath is completed, hammer in a small nail to the top of the door and string up the wreath.

How to Fertilize your Plants

If you are relatively new to owning a potted plant, it is important to know that your plant will require regular fertilization. One cause of this is that typically potted plants are quite young, which means they are growing more rapidly and are more in need of nutrients. Also, due to the fact that their soil nutrients are limited to what is in the pot, and those same nutrients are being drowned out by constant watering, it is important to fertilize. However, fertilizing potted plants is usually a pretty simple process. You can find exactly what you need packaged and ready to go at your local gardening store (many home improvement stores and some super centers also have a gardening section). However, not each fertilizer is exactly the same, so make sure to follow any given instructions. Many fertilizers are simply added to water before you water your plant. This makes tending to your plant even easier because it saves you an extra step.

Plant and Foliage Decorations

One of the foundations of a properly decorated home is creating the right mood. This atmosphere is created by using a good blend of colors, styles, textures, and furniture pieces. When you are decorating with more natural tones and textures, greenery is an important element that helps unify and give life to the room. When adding greenery, make sure you know the size and positions of the areas you will utilize so that you choose pieces with complementary shapes and styles. A good rule of thumb for tree height is to get a tree that is at least one to two feet shorter than the ceiling. You will also want the branches to be able to fit naturally in the area. Plants come in many shapes and sizes †if you are planning on having a tabletop display, a shorter plant like a bonsai tree would be perfect. An item that is great for ceiling corners is hanging plants. The benefit to silk plants is that they can be placed in areas that do not receive direct sunlight, yet they still retain a natural look.

The Endless Diversity of Artificial Trees

Many people find it surprising to see that there are literally hundreds of styles of silk trees to choose from. The most well-known silk tree is the pine tree (Christmas tree). There are also many unique varieties you may not have had the chance to consider. For example, the banana tree is an exotic option that is somewhat similar in appearance to the palm tree. Another is the bonsai tree, which has very small, almost pine-like features. The many designs available for the bonsai tree are quite striking and creative. Silk grasses, like cattail or bear grass, are unique and rarely used but very interesting decorative pieces. The more you get to look at and experiment with different alternatives, the more likely you are to hit on just the right design for your home.

Silk Garden Online.com offers a great selection of silk flowers. Including flower arrangements, silk roses, tulips, orchids, and more.
