Intelligence Academy: Creating Attractive Wreaths And Then Some by Misha Vasser
A lovely wreath on your door will tell visitors to your home something about you before they even step inside. Wreaths vary in many ways: the materials used, the shape chosen, the style emulated. For a simple wreath start with any desired foam ring and silk flowers; these can usually be obtained at a local craft store. Using some heavy-duty scissors, cut the stems of your flowers, leaving about an inch of stem below the flower. Next, decide how you want the flowers to be arranged, and add them individually to the ring by pushing the stems into the foam. A key to an attractive wreath is to make sure that the flowers are grouped closely enough so that the foam does not show through, but not so close that the flowers are crammed. As you add the flowers, it is a good idea to dot them with a little glue from a hot glue gun at the point where the stem comes out of the foam. Adding leaves or vines to your wreath works well for extra decoration or for covering up bare spots. You can choose to create wreaths using one kind of flower in many colors, or one color using many flowersâ”or a combination. Finally, choose what part of the wreath you want on âtopâ and tie a string around that area so that you can hang it on the door.
The Benefits of Hanging Plants
No matter the size of your house, adding hanging plants make for a great and non-invasive decorative touch. Adding hanging plants adds another dimension to your greenery (a variety of small, tall, low, and high contributes to a great look). Most often hanging plants get placed in a corner of the room, which is a great way to spruce up some of the more neglected, dusty areas of your house. Hanging plants placed in corners also stay out of the way. It is important to hang your plant correctly so that it does not someday crash to the floor. You will want to find a strong hook that can be adhered in some way to a ceiling beam if you are planning to hang a heavier, denser plant. Smaller plants use smaller hooks, and can usually be placed anywhere. You have many choices available to you, so look around online or in gardening stores until you find something that fits your home. You can opt for a live plant or a silk one.

Because they are so eye-catching but delicate, they should be the âstarâ of any flower arrangements they are placed in. Many common arrangements have orchids flowing over the basket or vase, standing tall in the center, or surrounded by other greenery. Most orchids are very vivid-looking, but you can find orchids in pretty much any color you can think of. Orchids are a good choice for home decor because they look right for almost any season.

Often the only tree that comes to peopleâs minds when they hear âartificial treeâ is the Christmas tree. However, there are a huge assortment of silk trees available. One that contrasts sharply with the pine tree image is the palm tree. When designing or planning to put a palm tree in your home, it is important to note the circumference of the leaves. For beginners, I would recommend getting a small palm tree to spruce up the bedroom, office, or even the kitchen area.
