Seasonal Decorations
There are a few ideas you may want to think about as you decorate for each season of the year. Rather than decorate everywhere with everything possible, choose a few areas to keep festive for the seasons. This cuts down on storage needs and overall work. You can have a particular shelf with seasonal knickknacks, or a calendar display with thematic elements. If you have young children at home, a cute way to decorate with durable, non-dangerous materials is to choose a stuffed animal and change what it wears with each month or season. To cut down on storage, consider revamping and reusing your crafts. Take a look at your seasonal crafts, and see if you can change or add to them to fit a different time of year. For instance, you can reuse the same wreath over and over by taking out old flowers and substituting new ones.
Decorating with Topiaries
The topiary field is an example of horticultural artwork: topiary plants are trimmed and shaped into specialized figures and designs. Some plants that work well for creating topiary designs are hedges (a more western choice) and bonsai tries (commonly used in the east). These topiaries come in every shape and sizes ranging from elephants, squirrels and people to elaborate designs, mazes, and even tunnels. Many people who love topiaries but do not have a place to display a 20-foot shrub choose to decorate their houses with much smaller silk topiaries. Silk topiaries are most often found in offices or churches. The most common design for the silk topiary is the spiral. This is due to the small offices and spaces that these topiaries are required to fill.
Ferns
If you would like to add some artificial trees or plants to your home, you can do so in one of two ways. Many people find their favorite plant, purchase it, and then rearrange the set âup of the room in a way that flatters and provides space for the plant. Other people decide exactly where in their home they need some greenery, and then look for a plant that fits the size and style needed. Either way, if you do not have a huge amount of room but you want an adequate amount of greenery, using ferns is a good choice. Ferns are great in tight spaces because their leaves are quite narrow and grow into whatever area that you please. There is a wide variety of live and artificial ferns. A great benefit of live ferns is that they are hardy and will do well in a variety of settings. On the other hand, silk ferns offer the beauty of a fern with no need for maintenance. Unlike flowers, ferns do not naturally draw the attention of the eye but work well as backdrops to other home decor items. Using a flower display in tandem with a few ferns can have a very attractive effect.
Involving Your Children in Interior Decorating
Many families with small children still have a strong desire for a well decorated home. This at times can seem to be counter productive as children, especially very young kids, have a way of distracting from the natural flow of completing dcor projects. One way to solve the problem is to get them involved rather than trying to keep them away. If you are doing something that a younger person cannot do, give them a similar project that they are old enough for. They will enjoy not only the time they spend with you, but the final product that you create together. With a little creativity, you will find that many projects can involve your children. Using hanging baskets, tall trees, and other large items that cannot be pulled down or messed up is always a good idea.
