Info Special: History of Topiaries by Misha Vasser
The topiary field is an example of horticultural artwork: topiary plants are trimmed and shaped into specialized figures and designs. Most often the plants used for topiary purposes are extremely dense. Animals such as rabbits, elephants, and bears, mythical gods and heroes, intricate patterns and designs, and huge mazes have all been incorporated into topiary artworks. Though real topiaries are often enormous in scale, there are many, many designs available with smaller silk plants. One place you can often find silk topiaries are in office buildings, places of worship, and larger public gathering places. A very popular look for silk topiaries includes a spiral shape, because it can be very small but decorative.
Selecting the Best Container for Your Greenery
Have you ever put a picture in a new frame, and been surprised at how much better the picture looks? You would be equally surprised to see how having a good pot for your plant makes a big difference. Based on the styles and types of greenery you use, one pot may work well for your plant while another one does not compliment it at all. One example is the bonsai plant: look for a pot with warm, rich colors and an Eastern style. With a different plant such as the bamboo, you will want a different look for your pot (try a metal pot with chic designs). Before you come to a decision, look at several different styles, colors, and materials to make sure you get the best fit. There is no rulebook as far as pot size. Some arrangements are arranged around a very large decorated pot, and in other arrangements the pot is barely visible.
Feeding Your Plants
If you are relatively new to owning a potted plant, it is important to know that your plant will require regular fertilization. There are two reasons for this: first, potted plants are in their young growing stages and need more nutrients. Potted plants also are dealing with a more limited, less renewed and rejuvenated soil However, fertilizing potted plants is usually a pretty simple process. Local gardening stores sell packages of fertilizer meant for potted plants. However, not each fertilizer is exactly the same, so make sure to follow any given instructions. There are also many fertilizers they can be put in to the water as you water the plants. This is a nice option that allows you to take care of both watering and fertilizing the same time.
To Buy or to Rearrange? That is the Question
Sometimes when I am at the craft store, it is easy to think that buying a certain item will add so much to the look of my home. Unfortunately, this is not great for my wallet or my house! The sad truth of the matter is that when I finally do succumb, my new treasure of a purchase all too often appears as clutter and ends up at my next yard sale. Instead of the constant looking and searching for new items, I have found that rearranging what I already have is a great solution for home dcor. It doesn’t take a lot of effort, but I feel like I have a brand new look. This way, I am expanding my artistic ability and sparing my wallet!
